For at least two years now, this mother duck has raised a batch of ducklings just round the back of the house. She arrives duly at the start of spring, and before summer kicks in she has a teeter of tiny webbed feet following closely behind. They spend the summer feeding from a little pond and exploring its surroundings. Then one fine day long before the first leaves turn colour, they take off, presumably for the south. Only the mother duck returns the following spring.
